Having held his place in the Singapore squad from the tail end of the Lions' Malaysia Cup days, Aide Iskandar was the logical choice to take over the captain's armband from Nazri Nasir after the 2002 Tiger Cup.

The commanding defender wore the armband proudly for the first time in 2003 in a friendly match against the Maldives - also the national team's first match at the reconstructed Jalan Besar Stadium.

Tough and uncompromising on the field, affable and approachable off it, Aide has proven to be a captain with the ability to inspire his team-mates and the requisite experience to guide the ever-increasing group of younger Lions.

He is also a true rarity in these modern days - a one club man, having nailed his colours to the Home United mast since the inception of the S.League in 1996.

After spells at Johor and Tampines Rovers in 2006, Aide moved to Geylang United where he has since taken up the club captain's armband.
