Ladies and gentlemen

1. A very good afternoon to all of you. I am very happy to be here today, at the Courts Young Lions pre-season press conference.

2. As you would agree, the participation of the Young Lions in the S.League has significantly enhanced youth development in Singapore during the past decade. Many of the players who had represented the team during the early stage of their professional career have since progressed to the National Team and have represented the country in tournaments such as FIFA World Cup qualifiers and AFF Suzuki Cup.

3. As a strong advocate of youth development and someone who enjoys working with, and developing, young players, I am both humbled and excited to be tasked to lead the Courts Young Lions team in the 2013 S.League season.

4. We have a younger Courts Young Lions squad this year, as compared to previous seasons. In my view, this represents an invaluable opportunity for our young players to step up and boost their chances of being called up to the SEA Games squad later this year. Apart from the SEA Games, I also hope that more players from the Courts Young Lions will be called up to the National Team sometime soon.

5. All the clubs have strengthened their squads for the upcoming season, while some have signed ‘Star Players’ who have impressive credentials. I believe these moves, as well as other initiatives, will enhance the competitiveness and quality of the league this season. The Courts Young Lions are among the best-supported clubs in the S.League in recent years, and I hope that more fans will turn up to support our youth players who will strive to put up a good performance in the league. The fans’ continued support will greatly motivate our players.

6. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the FAS management for their confidence and trust in me, and I am also deeply grateful to COURTS for renewing their sponsorship of the team.

7. We will work hard and also look forward to the continued support of our partners and stakeholders, including the fans, sponsors, media and volunteers, which will be key to the success of Singapore football in general.

8. Thank you once again, and I look forward to your support and presence at our matches in the 2013 S.League season.
