Ladies and gentlemen

1. A very good afternoon to all of you and I would like to thank all for being able to join us this wonderful Sunday afternoon.

2. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the LionsXII team for a successful debut in the Malaysia Super League and Cup competitions last year.

3. The LionsXII, with their relentless determination and unwavering team spirit, captured the hearts of Singaporeans from all walks of life. The entire nation cheered as one people when the LionsXII played week after week against teams from across the causeway. It was indeed a pleasure to see the LionsXII put up a pulsating display throughout the season, as they covered every yard of the pitch to snuff out the opposition. As you would agree with me, their determination and passion is the perfect embodiment of the Singapore Spirit.

4. Apart from the team’s perseverance and display on the pitch, our success in 2012 would not have been possible without the support of our stakeholders, including fans, sponsors, media and relevant agencies.

5. While there will be more young players below the age of 23 in Coach Sundram’s team this season, we are confident that they will put up their best performance in the league and continue to attract Singaporeans to their matches. While the LionsXII players will strive for success in the MSL and Cup competitions, it is also our objective to prepare them for the SEA Games later this year.

6. We are confident that the experience and exposure in the MSL will benefit our LionsXII U-23 players – most of whom are likely to represent Singapore at the SEA Games in December.

7. Apart from the exciting changes to the line-up, we have two other important changes, one of which I would leave to the emcee to take you through. It gives me great pleasure to announce that we have secured a partnership with TicketBooth, a one-stop ticketing service provider, to handle all ticketing matters related to the LionsXII matches. From this year, fans can now purchase their LionsXII tickets for the entire 2013 MSL season online, at TicketBooth’s 12 outlets, and at all AXS machines island-wide.

8. I would like to take this opportunity to urge corporations to join us in the development of Singapore football and to use sports to enhance community bonding. As Mr Lawrence Wong, Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth rightly noted, “Football is the only sport where you can really mobilise the whole nation.” We sincerely hope that corporations will view sports, including football, as a key platform to drive brand awareness and equity. Their support will facilitate our ongoing efforts to raise footballing standards and further enable us to expand our community and outreach initiatives, aimed at using sports as a strategy for nation building efforts.

9. In conclusion, we look forward to the continued support from our stakeholders including clubs, sponsors, government agencies, media, fans, volunteers, players and parents as we strive to raise the standards of local football in all aspects. Let us work together to further promote and develop the beautiful game.

10. On this note, I wish everyone a great afternoon ahead and to Head Coach Sundram and the LionsXII players, I wish you success in the season ahead.

Thank you.
