Singapore find out SEA Games group-stage draw for men’s and women’s football

SINGAPORE, 6 APRIL 2022 – The Singapore Men’s Under-23 and Women’s National Teams will both be facing Thailand at the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Hanoi, Vietnam next month.

 

At the draw ceremony earlier today morning, the Lionesses – set to make their first SEA Games appearance in 19 years – were drawn into Group B with Thailand, Myanmar and Laos. Ranked 43rd in the world by FIFA, the Thais are five-time champions and have qualified for the past two FIFA World Cups. Myanmar are ranked 45th, while Laos are ranked 83rd; Singapore are at 135th.

 

 

The men’s U23s were also placed in Group B for their draw and will have to battle it out with Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia and Laos to make it to the semi-finals. The Thais are the record 16-time champions, with Malaysia having won the competition twice. Singapore will be gunning for a first medal since winning bronze in the 2013 edition.

 

The top two in each group will advance to the semi-finals, which will be held on 18 May for the women’s and 19 May for the men’s. The finals will take place on 21 May for the women’s and 22 May for the men’s.
