SINGAPORE, 12 APRIL 2022 – The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) Coach Education Department (CED) recently concluded an Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Fitness Coaching Certificate Course – Level 1B.
Held from 23 to 27 March, it was the second and final part of the course after the first part had been conducted in March 2020. The 16 participants – all holding the AFC/FAS ‘B’ Certificate – were finally able to regather after the delay due to the pandemic and were under the watchful eyes and assured guidance of Coach Developer, Mr Mark Sean Jones (AFC Fitness Coaching Tutor). Level 1B of this course aims to develop a basic knowledge of training physiology and the demands of the game in participants.
All five days of the course were held at Jalan Besar Stadium, with both theory and practical sessions on a daily schedule. The course was conducted under current COVID-19 measures, with all participants adhering to the current safe management measures during the practical sessions. During the practical sessions, players from Geylang International FC’s Under-17 team and Albirex Niigata FC (S)’s Under-14 provided support.
Expressing his gratitude to the FAS for the “excellent” preparation and management of the course, Mr Jones told FAS.org.sg: “The fine detail of planning in the provision of equipment and refreshment during the course was first class. The participants were punctual, professional, and enthusiastic throughout the course. Their willingness to learn and adapt to achieve a better outcome was very evident. I enjoyed working with the entire group.”
Mr Jones was praised by the participants, who felt that he played a huge role in facilitating effective learning. “From the first day, all participants were felt very comfortable with the Coach Developer,” Mr R Shahul Hameed noted. “As all participants were adult learners, the respect given by the Coach Developer was appreciated. He was approachable and the delivery of the lessons was direct and explained the content in detail. Participants were guided for their practical and theory assessments before being assessed. Overall, I enjoyed the experience in this course. It was worth my time, money, and sacrifice.”
Mr Muhammad Khairil Asyraf Bin Roslan added: “I found the course to be very insightful and interesting. Mr Mark Sean Jones made things very easy to understand and definitely helped in developing us into better coaches. All in all, it was a very fruitful course and I’d say the coaches look forward to more of such courses. Thank you!”
Mr Tan Guo Xiong described his experience as “fantastic” and said: “The Coach Developer’s knowledge of fitness about the game had provided great value to our fellow coaches. The course was conducted clearly and objectively which made learning a lot easier. The facilities and equipment support was tremendous due to the pre-planning done by the Coach Developer. I felt more confident after attending this course as my theoretical and practical knowledge has helped me to become a better coach. Once again, I would like to sincerely thank Mr Mark Sean Jones and the FAS for conducting this course.”
