Announcement Of Futsal Squad For AFF Futsal Championship 2015
SINGAPORE, 29 SEPTEMBER 2015: The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) today announced the 15-man squad which will participate in the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Futsal Championship 2015. The competition will be held in Bangkok from 8th to 16th October 2015.
The team will be led by Head Coach Pattaya Piemkum, who has extensive experience in futsal. Coach Piemkum represented Thailand in futsal in his playing days before becoming the Head Coach of his country’s futsal team and had led them to the gold medal in the 2007, 2011 and 2013 editions of the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
Coach Piemkum will be assisted by Wachiraphan Markmee, a futsal goalkeeping coach for several clubs since 2005.
Mr Benjamin Tan, Deputy Director of Development and Planning, FAS, said: “This is the first time we are participating in the AFF Futsal Championship since 2001. We are pleased to have appointed Coach Piemkum, who has extensive expertise both as a player and as a coach.”
‚ÄúAmong other benefits, futsal helps to enhance the players’ skills in tight areas as well as their decision-making abilities and it is an important element in our long-term strategy aimed at enhancing the standards of Singapore football. Going forward, we will continue to promote futsal at all levels. The team will gain invaluable exposure from this competition and we believe their participation at the AFF Futsal Championship will inspire more youths to pick up the sport,‚Äù Mr Tan added.
“I am delighted to have been selected to lead Singapore’s futsal team at the upcoming competition. Our players are determined to do their best and I am confident that they will gain invaluable experience from their participation at the AFF Futsal Championship. With my experience and knowledge, I certainly hope to bring Singapore futsal to the next level, especially, in terms of participation at worldwide competitions,” said Coach Piemkum.
