Basic Sports Trainer Course (Refresher) has concluded

SINGAPORE, 8 FEBRUARY 2024 – The Football Science and Medicine (FSAM) Department has recently concluded the Basic Sports Trainer Course (Refresher), which was organised in collaboration with Singapore Sports Medicine Center @ Changi General Hospital (SSMC @ CGH) and Singapore Sports Institute (SSI).


Held on 1 February 2024 at Jalan Besar Stadium, the course aim to provide a comprehensive refresher for sports trainers, focusing on enhancing their proficiency in injury prevention and management. The course was led by two physiotherapists: Senior Principal Physiotherapist Elaine Gomez (SSMC@CGH) and Principal Physiotherapist Huma Kathiwala (SSMC@SSI).

The one-day curriculum covered the following areas:

  • Common Conditions / Injuries Encountered and its management
  • On-field Skills Refresher
  • On-field Assessment of Injury and Immediate Management
  • Injury Prevention and Training Principles



Participants also took part in practical applications, February 2024. 


Participants also engaged in discussions, practical applications, and scenarios to ensure they could apply their knowledge effectively in real-world situations. To ensure that participants were well-prepared to handle their roles effectively, the course concluded with both theory and practical assessments. These evaluations aimed to gauge the competency of each participant in injury prevention and management.
