Bedok South Avenue SC celebrate after sealing the IWL title.

SINGAPORE, 2 OCTOBER 2023 – Bedok South Avenue SC have clinched the Island Wide League (IWL) title after overcoming Tengah FC 2-1 in the final at the Jalan Besar Stadium (JBS) this evening.

In doing so, Bedok South Avenue SC finishes the campaign with six wins and a single loss to enjoy a fairy-tale ending to the IWL season.

FAS Vice President Mr Teo Hock Seng and General Secretary Mr Yazeen Buhari were in attendance to present the trophy and medals to the teams.

After a tight opening period, Bedok South took the lead just before halftime when Nur Irfan pounced on a loose ball to score the opening goal. Shortly after the interval, Tengah FC’s Saravanan Krishnamoorthy scored a deserved equaliser after some counterattacking play from his team. With the scores level after 68 minutes, Bedok South’s Firdaus Rashid took a quick free kick from the halfway line and sent the ball across to his midfield partner Azrin Junaidi to convert and net what would turn out to be the winning goal.

The prize ceremony was held at JBS after the match, with the Bedok South Avenue SC players receiving the coveted trophy from Football Association of Singapore (FAS) Vice President, Mr Teo Hock Seng.

Bedok South Avenue SC forward Hakim Abdullah made it a double celebration for his club as he picked up the league’s Top Scorer award having finished the season with ten goals.

Tengah FC will be promoted to the SFL 2 in the 2024 season.

As the top two teams in the league, both Bedok South Avenue SC and Tengah FC will be promoted to the FAS Singapore Football League (SFL) 2 next season.

Singapore Xin Hua FC and Mattar Sailors FC will be relegated to IWL next season after finishing in the bottom two of the SFL 2.
