Borussia Zamrud FC sealed the double by winning the FAS Women’s Challenge Cup 2011
SINGAPORE, 26 November 2011: Borussia Zamrud FC overcame FAS Young Women 3-2 in a closely fought match this evening at Jalan Besar Stadium to be crowned winners of the 2011 FAS Women’s Challenge Cup.
Looking to do the double this year, League Champions Borussia Zamrud FC set the tone of the game with an early goal from forward No.11, Luo Jian Zhen in the 9th minute. But the FAS Young Women team replied instantly through Noor Fatin Afiqah two minutes later.
Jian Zhen added another goal to her name in the 15th minute to give her side the lead. Despite trying their best to bring the game back on level terms, FAS Young Women were not able to break down the Borussia’s defensive wall.
The first half came to an end with Borussia having a one-goal lead.
Both teams came back on to make known their intention to win in the finals and the Young Women did just that in the 59th minute when Uma Dhevi who came on for Siti Nurhidayah, let fly a screamer that ended in the back of the net.
The equalizer changed the dynamics of the match as both teams surged forward in search of the winning goal. However, It was Borussia who came out tops after a late goal in the 85th minute from Jian Zhen who made it a hat-trick to cap off a fantastic individual effort by the forward.
The match then ended with the scoreboard reading, FAS Young Women 2-3 Borussia Zamrud FC.
