Coach Sundram’s reply to media queries on U23 selection and working relationship

“The upcoming game against Indonesia is a crucial game that will determine our qualification for the SEA Games in Myanmar at the end of this year.

There are several other gifted and skilled players beyond this current squad, including the talented Adam Swandi who is part of our provisional list of 39 players for the SEA Games. All players eligible for the 2013 SEA Games will be considered for friendly matches in the lead-up to the competition in December, before we decide on the final squad.

I note that an unnamed source in the report questioned my communication flow with Coach Bernd. I have an excellent working relationship with Coach Bernd and we have weekly meetings to discuss various matters including the progress of all our National Teams, the Lions XII and Under-23 teams, and our players. The fans should take heart that FAS and all our coaches are working hard to bring Singapore football to the next level, and the recent wins at the AFF Suzuki Cup and Malaysian Super League showed that we are moving in the right direction.

I remain focused on my task ahead. Along with Coach Bernd and Courts Young Lions coach Aide Iskandar, I am determined to achieve a result at this Saturday’s match and lead the team to the SEA Games in Myanmar this December.”
