Coach V. Sundramoorthy Appointed To Lead Singapore Selection Team
SINGAPORE, 14 APRIL 2015: The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) has appointed Tampines Rovers FC Coach V. Sundramoorthy as the Head Coach of the Singapore Selection side that will participate in the in the 2015 Barclays Asia Trophy competition, which also features English Premier League sides Arsenal, Everton and Stoke City.
FAS President Zainudin Nordin said: “Coach V. Sundramoorthy is one of our top local coaches and we are delighted to appoint him as the Head Coach to lead our Singapore Selection side at the Barclays Asia Trophy which is the only Premier League-affiliated competition to take place outside England.”
Coach Sundram had previously led the National Team in various key assignments including the FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. He also led the LionsXII in the Malaysian Super League from 2012 to 2013, a tenure that culminated in the team winning the MSL title in 2013. This latest assignment provides another great opportunity for him to take on some of the world’s best coaches today.
“Going forward, we will continue to identify opportunities for our talented and committed coaches to further enhance their capabilities.
“I also want to take this opportunity to thank the Tampines Rovers’ management, especially chairman Mr Teo Hock Seng, for their support and accepting our request to appoint him.”
Coach Sundram is looking forward to the challenge of leading the Singapore Selection for the competition which will be held at the Singapore Sports Hub’s National Stadium in July.
He said: “I appreciate the fact that the FAS is always seeking opportunities to enhance the development of local coaches and it is a great honour for me to be appointed the Head Coach of the Singapore Selection Team for the Barclays Asia Trophy which is one of the region’s top competitions.
“Our players will gain valuable match experience and exposure from taking on world-class stars such as Mesut Özil, Alexis Sánchez, Gareth Barry and Asmir Begović, and this will further strengthen their capabilities.
“It will be a privilege and a fantastic experience to play at the 55,000-seat National Stadium, especially just three weeks before Singapore turns 50 on 9 August. The Barclays Premier League is very popular among Singaporeans and I hope fans will pack the stadium on both match-days to support us against these three top sides and their star players.
“I would like to thank the FAS for their confidence in me. I am also grateful to Tampines Rovers chairman Teo Hock Seng for readily supporting the Association’s request to appoint me to lead the team.”
The four team knock-out competition will take place over two match days on 15 July and 18 July 2015.
