Coaches’ Day marks completion of FAS/AFC Pro-Diploma Coaching Course (Part 3)
SINGAPORE, 3 SEPTEMBER 2021 – The third module of the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) / Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Professional Football Diploma (Pro-Diploma) Coaching Course successfully concluded on Thursday evening.
The first two modules of the four-part course had been completed virtually in May and June due to the COVID-19 government restrictions then. This time, all 18 participants were able to come together over four days at Jalan Besar Stadium to continue the course.
This is the second time that the FAS is conducting the AFC Pro-Diploma Course since the first in 2012 and all participants were required to hold an AFC ‘A’ Diploma for at least two years and be coaching at a Professional or Elite Youth team(s) level.
The closing stage of this third module was also used as an opportunity to mark Coaches’ Day, which is being celebrated today. An initiative of Sport Singapore that aims to raise the level of recognition accorded to coaches nationwide for the significant role they play in the holistic development of their athletes, Singaporeans are encouraged to show appreciation to their coaches on this day every year.

FAS Technical Director, Mr Joseph Palatsides, joined the ceremony remotely and expressed his appreciation for those present as well as all local coaches: “Happy Coaches’ Day to everyone! It is a day in which we recognise all the coaches in Singapore because you play such an important part in structuring and changing the landscape of Singapore football. All of you are involved in the… outcome we want to achieve, which is to make Singapore a stronger footballing nation. This lies in your hands and we know that you understand the responsibilities; we have to make sure we embrace it (but I know that) it is a hard job so I thank you for all your hard work, dedication and sacrifice… for being part of this journey and we (the FAS) will always be here to support you whenever you need. Thank you also for your attention over four days.. we should have more days when we do interact (in person in future) and we hope to see the environment grow further; we wish you sustained success on your journey.”
Tokens of appreciation were presented individually by FAS Head, Coach Education & Development, Zainudeen Hassan, who said: “The FAS joins everyone to thank and appreciate the many coaches of our football fraternity for their countless sacrifices and heartwarming passion for the game. For all the late nights, early mornings and dedication on the pitch in guiding their charges towards fulfilling their potential – today, we salute you!”
