Conclusion of FAS/AFC ‘Pro’ Diploma Coaching Course (Part 5)

SINGAPORE, 9 JUNE 2022 – Eighteen participants continued their journey towards obtaining the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) / Asian Football Confederation (AFC) ‘Pro’ Diploma certification last week after completing Part 5 of the Coaching Course.
Held from 30 May to 3 June at the Jalan Besar Stadium, it followed on from Part 4B that had taken place in April. As it had been since the start, Lead Coach Developer, Mr Robert Sherman, guided the participants throughout the five days.

This part of the course covered a number of topics, such as how to deal with the media, youth development, physical conditioning and recruitment, and saw a number of guest speakers share their expertise, via both physical and virtual means.

The lineup comprised: Mr Kevin Muscat (Manager, Yokohama F. Marinos), Rookbook Sports (represented by Mr Jeff Lee, Mr Kim Ng, Mr Vikram Jayakumar, and Mr Oh Ji Heon), Mr Patrick O’Mara (Founder, Con10R), Mr Badri Ghent (Sporting Director, Lion City Sailors), Mr Kevin Thelwell (Director of Football, Everton), Mr Marc Lim (former sports journalist and current consultant for Unleash The Roar!), Mr Damian Roden (High Performance Consultant), Mr Andy Peat (Coaching & Video Coach Consultant, Applied Winning Practices) and Mr Drew Sherman (Technical Lead, Football Association of Wales). The FAS is grateful to the speakers, all of whom volunteered their time and resources to enhance the participants’ learning.

Mr Robert Sherman told FAS.org.sg: “It’s been another great experience working with this group of coaches. Part 5 has been one of those weeks when all the parts come together and the course participants fully appreciate why they have been asked to do so many tasks. I’d like to thank our guest presenters, whose contributions have made a massive impact. I look forward to returning in September for the next stage and working with the FAS team once again.”

Geylang International Head Coach Mohamed Noor Ali noted: “Going through the phases of this course as a coach has provided us with a very professional set-up at the highest level. The Coach Developers and administrative staff has been very professional and made sure that coaches can have a good learning journey so that we can understand and perform at our level best. We shall move forward positively with what we have learnt throughout the course.”

Balestier Khalsa Under-21 Head Coach and Head of Youth Development Haris Sumri described Part 5 as “very comprehensive” and appreciated the content, noting: “Not only does it include topics about the journey as a coach, but it also showed us the overall setup of a club in terms of structure, planning, setting up a culture, and youth development setup. The topics on nutrition, recovery and analysis were also a big part of this course. I have also learnt in-depth into the detailed planning of a match plan.”

Singapore Under-19 Men’s National Team Head Coach Fadzuhasny Juraimi added: “It has been a great part of the course. The presenters shared their expertise with some fantastic takeaways which I can put into practice. The sharing sessions with fellow course mates have also given me a different and widen my perspective on how I can develop myself as a coach.”

The participants’ next step will be to undertake Part 6 between 19 and 23 September.
