SINGAPORE, 27 FEBRUARY 2015: The Courts Young Lions (CYL) squad for the 2015 Great Eastern-Yeo’s S.League season was officially unveiled today at the Singapore Sports Museum, along with the new kits the team will sport in the coming year.

New additions to this year’s CYL squad include defender Shakir Hamzah and forward Shahfiq Ghani. Both have joined the team from the LionsXII. Other new faces include midfielders Adam Swandi, who has returned from his stint at French club FC Metz, and Suria Prakash, who caught the eye for Warriors FC last season. These additions have been made with a view to June’s South-east Asian (SEA) Games, which will be held in Singapore for the first time since 1993, with the aim of letting the team gel ahead of the biennial regional tournament. The average age of the squad is 21.73 years.

Mr Terry O’Connor, Group CEO of Courts Asia and CEO of Courts Singapore, said: “We are pleased to support the Courts Young Lions for the fifth year and contribute to the development of local football. The 2015 SEA Games represents an opportunity to unite Singaporeans through the ubiquitous love for football and we are excited to work together with FAS to raise the profile of the sport.”

Said Football Association of Singapore (FAS) President Mr Zainudin Nordin: “Youth development is a key pillar of the FAS Strategic Plan, and the Courts Young Lions team is an important platform for the development of our best young players. They get exposed to fierce competition against experienced professionals, both local and foreign, something that will aid their long-term development as players.”

Courts Young Lions and Under-23 National Team Head Coach Aide Iskandar added: “Our team has been busy in the pre-season, preparing not just for the S.League but also the SEA Games. We went to Turkey for a training tour in January, and played a couple of international friendlies as well. I would like to encourage Singapore football fans to turn up and cheer the Courts Young Lions in the S.League. I know the boys will definitely be inspired by your support in this final phase of their preparations for the SEA Games.”

The Courts Young Lions will kick off their 2015 Great Eastern-Yeo’s S.League campaign against a new-look Hougang United side that is the result of a merger between Hougang and Woodlands Wellington.
