FAS/AFC ‘B’ Diploma Coaching Course (SG-Coach Level 2 Full Integration) Part 1 has concluded

SINGAPORE, 10 JULY 2023 – The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) recently concluded Part 1 of the inaugural FAS/Asian Football Confederation (AFC) ‘B’ Diploma (SG-Coach Level 2 Full Integration) Coaching Course, following in-principle approval from CoachSG.
The course accommodated 24 participants and was held at ITE College Central, under the mentorship of Lead Coach Developer, Mr Subramani Shunmugham, and Assistant Coach Developer, Mr Loh Ngiap Tai.
The course consists of four distinct parts in its In-Course segment. Prior to that, participants engaged in a Pre-Course segment that required them to complete e-learning on SG-Coach Theory Level 2 and Intermediate Sport Science on the SportSG-ED learning portal before attending the In-Course segment,
The In-Course segment covers theory topics like “Coaching Session Delivery Models (inclusive of A system Approach to Coaching)”, “Sports Psychology (Mental Skills Training + Emotions in Football)”, “Coach as Leader (Team Management)”, and “Team Building (Hackman Condition-Setting Approach)”. For practical sessions, topics such as the “Building-up phase”, “Phases of Play”, and “Ball Retention Phase” were led by both Coach Developers and course participants.

FAS’s Referee Department, Mr Sukhbir Singh, and Balestier Khalsa FC’s U17 Head Coach & Balestier Khalsa FC’s SPL Assistant Coach, Mr Abdul Musawir were invited as guest speakers.

Mr Singh presented a topic on “Ethics and Laws of the Game”, whereas Mr Abdul Musawir presented a topic on “Identifying Football Problems (Part 1) – Match Analysis.

As part of the second section of the course, course participants will now proceed to gain work/mentoring experience at an amateur club or youth programme. They are required to be mentored by at least a FAS/AFC ‘A’ Diploma or equivalent coach.

Course participant Mr Muhammad Irwan Shah Arismail told FAS: “As a current professional player, the first part of the 2023 FAS/AFC ‘B’ Diploma (SG-Coach Level 2 Full Integration) Coaching Course was such an eye-opener for me. I find that the course is well structured. It will take you on a journey from a coaching point of view where course participants get to have a lot of practical practice and gain more understanding about the game. At the same time, I get to learn from other course participants as well. It was an enriching experience for me.”

Mr Zainudeen Hassan (Head, Coach Education & Development) concluded: “Upon the completion of our inaugural FAS/AFC ‘C’ Diploma (SG-Coach Level 1 Full Integration) Coaching Course last year, we started planning and it took us a while to put together this SG-Coach Level 2 Full Integration coaching curriculum with CoachSG. I’m pleased that CoachSG has given FAS their in-principle approval to have the FAS/AFC ‘B’ Diploma (SG-Coach Level 2 Full Integration) Coaching Course and for us to get this course up and running.”
