FAS and WaF4H team up for multi-generational walking football on AFC Grassroots Football Day

60 participants from FAS Girl Cubs programme and Junior National Development Centre (JNDC) teams attended the event, May 2024.

 

SINGAPORE, 18 MAY 2024 – On 18 May 2024, the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) hosted its annual Grassroots Football Day at the Jalan Besar Stadium. This event, in conjunction with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Grassroots Football Day and International Family Day, spotlighted Multi-Generational Walking Football, a collaboration between FAS and WalkingFootball4Health Asia Pacific Singapore (WaF4H).

 

 

Led by Dr. Dee Dee Mahmood (PhD), founder of WaF4H, the event aimed to promote health and fitness, and community engagement through walking football, a user-friendly sport.

 

A user-friendly sport, WalkingFootball4Health Asia Pacific Singapore aims to promote walking football that brings everyone from all walks of life together.

 

Despite initial weather challenges, the enthusiasm of 100 participants which included families of FAS Girl Cubs programme and Junior National Development Centre (JNDC) teams remained high. Dr. Dee Dee led a session introducing walking football, followed by tailored warm-up and on-field drills.

Guests of Honour, including FAS President Mr. Bernard Tan and COGV Chairperson, Mr. Rizal Rasudin and Deputy Chairperson, Mr. Zaki Ma’arof, actively participated in an exhibition match with WaF4H players, closing the event on a high note.

 

 

FAS President Mr. Bernard Tan acknowledged Dr. Dee Dee’s significant contributions to the event’s success, highlighting her pivotal role.

 

Members of the public can also join WaF4H’s Sunday training sessions at Broadrick Secondary School from 5pm to 7pm.
