SINGAPORE, 5 APRIL 2022 – For the first time, the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) Referee’s department conducted a two-day Technical Official Programme from 25 March to 26 March 2022 to introduce the rules of Football to participants from Team Nila, a national volunteerism movement spearheaded by Sport Singapore.
This programme will allow them to become game leaders to facilitate and conduct ActiveSG Football programmes for the lower age groups children.
A total of 14 participants attended the two-day course, which was conducted by former referees Sukhbir Singh, Abdul Malik Bashir as well as accredited FIFA Video Match Official Muhammad Taqi. The course first introduced the rules of the Beautiful Game before holding a practical session where they were exposed to small-sided matches and assigned as the game leaders at the same time.
FAS Head of Referees Nazeer Hussain said: “When Team Nila approached us to conduct this course, we saw this as an opportunity to introduce the basics of refereeing to pique the participants’ interest so they might consider becoming a referee in the future. The feedback from them was very positive and I believe the participants had a fruitful time.”
One of the participants Chervelle Tan said: “The course was enjoyable as it was well-planned and smoothly conducted by our instructors. They were approachable and willingly shared their experiences and knowledge with us. I now have a deeper insight into the rules of football and I also took away tips on how to manage people.”
