FAS and JFA sign Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance football cooperation
Both parties will collaborate to promote and develop football in both Singapore and Johor as part of three-year agreement

SINGAPORE, 11 JULY 2023 – The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Johor Football Association (JFA) with the aim at fostering closer ties and cooperation in the realm of football development for both associations.
The three-year agreement will see both parties collaborate on several key objectives including, an annual football competition involving Singapore and Johor Selection teams that will be jointly co-hosted by both parties, a working platform for the mutual exchange of youth players as well as the arrangement of regular youth matches, and additional areas for collaboration between the two associations for the mutual benefit of football development.
The signing ceremony took place at the Shangri-La Singapore with FAS Acting President, Mr Bernard Tan and JFA President YB Dato’ Hj Ismail Bin Karim being the official signatories. Minister for Culture, Community, and Youth, and 2nd Minister for Law, Mr Edwin Tong and His Royal Highness, the Crown Prince of Johor, Tunku Ismail Idris Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, acted as witnesses to the MOU.

The MOU also promotes the coordination of exchange visits, wherein the details of each visit will be communicated and agreed upon by both parties, taking into account the best interests of the development of football in Singapore and Johor.
Another key aspect of the MOU will see the organising of friendly matches between the youth and senior teams of both associations periodically, subject to mutual agreement on schedules and financial arrangements. Additionally, efforts will be made to facilitate training camps for the respective state and club teams in Singapore and Johor.
The MOU also recognises the potential for commercial cooperation, including franchising activities, licensing arrangements, merchandising, and other commercial ventures that align with the overall objectives of the agreement and the involved parties.
FAS Acting President, Mr Bernard Tan, said: “Today’s MOU signing is an important step towards strengthening football ties with a neighbour and ensuring that there is a mutually beneficial partnership to uplift football on both sides. Together with the JFA, we are fully committed to actively riding on the MOU to develop new programs and we look forward to a fruitful and lasting partnership.”
