FAS MEDIA STATEMENT ON DEFAMATION SUIT AGAINST MR. SURESH NAIR

Share

The FAS has noted and acknowledges Mr. Suresh Nair’s apology, in relation to the matter above.

Mr. Nair had published an article which was entirely untrue and baseless.  The article also impugned the integrity of FAS, a matter which the FAS takes very seriously.

We are happy that Mr. Nair has now accepted that the allegations made in the article had absolutely no truth or basis whatsoever, and has unreservedly and unconditionally withdrawn them.  He has also published an apology and offered to pay damages and costs to FAS.

Given Mr. Nair’s apology and unconditional retraction, the FAS offered for Mr. Nair to pay only nominal amounts of damages and costs, at $2 each.  Mr. Nair accepted this.

This is not about seeking damages. While the FAS accepts criticism, baseless allegations which impugn on the integrity of certain members or the collective must be met to allow the FAS to function with the confidence of the public and other important stakeholders. We are therefore pleased that Mr. Nair has acknowledged the baseless allegations and we now consider the matter closed.
