FAS’ reply to media queries on MOU with FAM after 2015
“It was agreed between both Football Associations before the signing of the four-year Memorandum of Understanding in 2011 that we will review the partnership agreement in 2015.
“It would not be appropriate for us to comment on a hypothetical situation although it suffices to say that we are pleased with the partnership agreement. At the same time, we are happy to note that the Football Association of Malaysia has commended the LionsXII for bringing added value to, and increasing the popularity of, their league. FAM’s Assistant Secretary-General Ahmad Fuad Daud was also quoted as saying that the LionsXII’s achievements ‘will definitely fire up and spur the other teams‘ and that this ‘can only be good’ for their tournaments.
“We are reviewing all aspects relating to the LionsXII’s participation in the 2013 Malaysian Super League and will also be discussing internally the plans for the 2014 season.
“While it is a common practice for clubs to finalise their plans for the next season sometime towards the end of the current season, we aim to do so earlier. As always, the need to achieve a judicious balance between football competitiveness and youth development will be a key consideration for us when we decide on matters relating to the LionsXII for 2014.
“We will work closely with players whose contracts with LionsXII would not be renewed and assist them in continuing their professional footballing career. More details, including the squad list, will be announced at an opportune time.”
