FAS’ reply to media queries on proposed bid to host the Youth World Cup
Singapore has experience in hosting major sporting events including the inaugural editions of Asian Youth Games in 2009 and Youth Olympic Games in 2010, and we believe that will give us confidence that we could and should aspire to host a FIFA Youth World Cup. We have been in communication with FIFA where we have expressed our desire to host the Youth World Cup in 2019. We had also invited a FIFA official in December last year who advised us on the requirements needed to host a Youth World Cup.
We will work closely with our partners to submit our bid. Further, with the proposed completion of the Sports Hub in 2014, we will have a few options to consider when selecting football venues. More details will be announced at an appropriate time.
