FAS’ reply to media query regarding National Football League team’s complaint
“Teams need to field the minimum seven players for a match to proceed, and the National Football League (NFL) Rulebook 2017 Section A, Article 10.7 states that: “If a team has less than seven players attending a match or fail to turn up resulting in the abandonment of the match, the match will be awarded to the opponent with a score of 3-0 and the case may be referred to the Competitions Committee.”
“As Katong FC were unable to field seven players in their NFL Division One match on 6 December 2017, the match was awarded to their opponents Yishun Sentek Mariners FC with a score of 3-0, in accordance to the Rulebook.
“The case has been referred to the Football Association of Singapore Competitions Committee who will be determining the next course of action.
“In previous cases of walkovers in the 2017 NFL season, the Competitions Committee has imposed on clubs fines of $500 in the instance of a first walkover, and $1,000 for repeat incidents.”
