FAS’ Reply To Media Query Regarding WCQ Held At Singapore Sports Hub
Singapore football fans are our priority and the FAS had decided, after much consideration and discussions with our partners, that all four home qualifiers for the FIFA 2018 World Cup would be played at the Singapore Sports Hub so as to ensure as many supporters as possible can cheer for our National Team.
In addition, this is part of our long-term strategy, in partnership with our stakeholders and partners, to bring back the Kallang Roar and attract more top international teams to Singapore.
We are encouraged by the attendance at last night’s match at the Singapore Sports Hub, which was almost twice the average attendance for our three home matches of the AFC Asian Cup 2015 Qualifiers which was played at the Jalan Besar Stadium in 2013 and 2014.
The first home qualifier of the FIFA 2018 World Cup/AFC 2019 Asian Cup against Afghanistan played at the National Stadium would have been sold out if it was played at JBS.
Apart from match day attendances, we have been also been working closely with our partner MP & Silva to ensure these matches will be broadcast in high quality to viewers at home.
In the last few months, there have been on-going discussions with various broadcasters to ensure that the FIFA World Cup qualifiers will be broadcasted on television.
We still continue to explore opportunities and engage interested parties in discussions aimed at broadcasting the matches. In the meantime, football fans can catch the LIVE Singapore home matches on Eleven Sports Network.
