The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) would like to thank Mr M Lukshumayeh for his letter (“Unfair to compare 1994 and 2013 title-winning teams”; 4 July 2013).

We appreciate Mr Lukshumayeh and all fans for their unwavering support for the LionsXII. The support from the fans has been instrumental to the LionsXII’s success throughout the past 18 months.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong for attending the home match against Felda United on Tuesday to lend his support for the LionsXII. We also appreciate President Dr Tony Tan and Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong for their words of encouragement and support for the LionsXII and Singapore football. We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to our S League clubs for their support in the development of our players in the team and raising the standards of Singapore footballers, who have now seen consecutive successes on the pitch with our national team winning the AFF Championship and with the LionsXII winning the MSL title.

While we are encouraged by the progress of Singapore football, there remains much hard work ahead. We will continue to remain focused and strive towards achieving our goals as spelt out in our Strategic Plan. We urge all fans to continue to lend their support for local football by cheering on their favourite players and clubs at our S.League matches. At the same time, we would like to call upon all stakeholders, including sponsors, to continue to work with us in further raising the standard of Singapore football at every level.
