FAS’ reply to TNP Forum: FAS urges fans to put up good sporting behaviour at all times
We thank Mr Ishwar Mahtani for his letter (“Avoid vulgar chants”; The New Paper, 29 June 2013).
The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) appreciates the support from Mr Mahtani and all fans and stakeholders, who have been an integral part of the continued success of Singapore football in recent years. During the past 18 months, the fans’ support for the LionsXII has been tremendous and has played an instrumental role in the team clinching the Malaysian Super League 2013 title on Tuesday.
Our players, officials and staff are encouraged by the full-house turnouts at several matches this season and we hope our fans will continue to support our team Рboth at Jalan Besar Stadium and at away venues. As a forward-looking organisation, we are always seeking ways to enhance the match-day experience for our fans. At the same time, we agree with Mr Mahtani that fans should always display high standards of sportsmanship and respect for each other at all times – regardless of the result or decision of the match officials.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our stakeholders, including fans, for their support towards local football in recent years. While we are encouraged by the progress and recognition of our various programmes, there remains much hard work ahead. We will continue to remain focused and strive towards our goals. At the same time, we would like to call upon all stakeholders, including corporations, to work with us to further raise the standards of football in Singapore and bring sports and football to greater heights.
