FAS response to media query on TRFC’s two COVID-19 cases
The decision for Tampines Rovers FC (TRFC) to travel to Tashkent, Uzbekistan was one that was collectively assessed and considered carefully by the club and the Football Association of Singapore (FAS), and supported by relevant government agencies. Players and officials of TRFC were keeping to the national vaccination rollout schedule at the time when they received confirmation of the competition venue and fixtures in May.
While the travelling contingent was not fully vaccinated prior to departure given the timelines required for completion of both doses of vaccines, TRFC employed and adhered to a strict bubble concept during their Asian Champions League campaign and followed the Ministry of Health’s guidelines. The team is currently serving their Stay-Home-Notice (SHN) at designated hotels upon their return to Singapore.
Unfortunately, two of the club’s players tested positive for COVID-19 while on SHN. Both players who tested positive are currently stable, and we wish them a speedy recovery.
The FAS is taking all necessary measures to ensure that the health and safety of the TRFC players and officials, as well as those from the participating Singapore Premier League clubs, are prioritised before TRFC are given clearance to safely return to training and competitive matches after their quarantine period.
