FAS’ Reply to Media Query on Prime League and National Football Academy
The Prime League serves as a feeder system for the S.League teams. Over the past three years, around 250 players were registered in the Prime League and an average of 17 players join the professional ranks of S.League annually. The Prime League has gradually progressed from being an Under-23 tournament to a Under-21 tournament next season.
There are 102 players in the National Football Academy at present (NFA Under-15, Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18). Some notable players the NFA has produced in the past few years include 18-year-olds Adam Swandi and Amirul Adli Azmi, both of whom have already been capped by the senior National Team.
FAS/S.League embarked on a Life After Football project in mid-2014 with the intent of assisting and preparing professional footballers for a second career after football. The project hopes to subsidise footballers for studies at approved institutions and courses. In addition, FAS/S.League has also linked up with corporate partners to help former footballers find new employment.
