FAS response to media query on resumption of SPL
“The fluidity and constantly evolving COVID-19 pandemic situation makes it very challenging to make any concrete or even scenario based plans for the League and the Cup Competition.
“While the Football Association of Singapore’s (FAS) desire is for the full resumption of the current AIA Singapore Premier League season whenever it is possible to do so, there are a number of considerations before this can happen. These include the health and safety of all players and staff involved, which remain our primary concern, as well as any restrictions and directives set by the Singapore Government. We remain committed to working alongside the Government and our stakeholders. Any decision to resume the SPL season as well as other FAS competitions and any decision on the nature and extent of the said resumption will have to be made in full accordance with guidelines and directives from the Government.
T”he FAS will strive, within our fullest ability, to ensure that the SPL has the continued participation of all nine teams, including Brunei DPMM, should the season be allowed to resume.
“We wish to show our appreciation to the clubs and players for their perseverance during these tough times and for being understanding of the situation at present. It is also heartening to note the players are continuing with their own personal trainings in order to remain fit and to be in a position to come back to the field stronger when we resume. The FAS is also grateful to our sponsors and partners who have remained engaged in this difficult time and we thank them for the continuous support.”
