FAS’ response to query on Singapore’s 2019 SEA Games football draw

“We have a tough group for the SEA Games. Two of our opponents in the group, Thailand and Vietnam, have both qualified for the AFC Under-23 Championship next year. We should not be intimidated by any opposition but rather use it as motivation for us to perform better. It is only when we play against the best teams in ASEAN that we improve ourselves as each opponent has its own strengths and key players. We will be mentally and physically prepared for this challenge ahead.

“In terms of who will be called up to the SEA Games squad, I have 40 players vying for spots in the final 20 spots in the final squad. From what I have seen in the Merlion Cup, friendly matches and training sessions that we have had so far, the competition amongst the players is heartening. I will be finalising the list of players and making an announcement only closer to the tournament.”
