SINGAPORE, 16 NOVEMBER 2016: The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) is pleased to announce that FAS will be organising the inaugural International Challenge Cup Under-15 Football Tournament 2016. It will commence on Monday 21 November 2016 and conclude on Sunday 27 November.
A total of eight teams will be playing against each other in this tournament. They are the Promotion Fund of Vietnamese Football Talents (PVF) from Vietnam, Matsumoto Yamaga FC from Japan, Mendiola FC from Philippines, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) FC from Malaysia, and St. Monica’s College’s Northern Football Academy from Australia. Singapore will be represented by three teams – the Centre of Excellence (COE) Combined Team, National Football Academy (NFA) Under-15s, and the NFA Under-14s.
The preliminary round matches will be played at the Singapore Sports School, with the semi-finals and final for the Cup to be held at Jalan Besar Stadium.
General Manager, Youth Development and Junior Centres of Excellence, S. Varatha Rajan enthused: “We organised this tournament because we wanted to expose our young footballers to the quality and different styles of international football as much as possible. Fielding three teams will allow even more players to benefit from this. The teams we have invited are of a high calibre, so we are looking forward to seeing how our boys cope with them.”
The teams have been drawn into two groups. Group A will comprise the COE Combined Team, NFA Under-15, PVF – Vietnam and Matsumoto Yamaga FC, whereas Mendiola FC, NFA Under-14, St. Monica’s College’s Northern Football Academy and JDT FC will be in Group B.
