SINGAPORE, 11 NOVEMBER 2016: The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) is pleased to announce that it will be presenting FAS’ work in developing women’s football in Singapore at the inaugural Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Football Conference 2016. The conference will be held from 16-18 November 2016 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

FAS was invited by AFC to share as a “Best Practice Member Association (MA)” among the AFC MAs.  In her presentation, General Manager of Grassroots & Women’s Football Ms Julie Teo will describe the current status of women’s football in Singapore, the new initiatives that have been put in place since 2015, the challenges faced and some tangible results of these efforts.

Ms Teo said: “We are honoured and humbled to have our work in Singapore recognised by the AFC, and to present as a Best Practice MA. This validation will serve as impetus for us to bolster further growth in women’s football. At the same time, this Conference is a valuable opportunity for us to learn from other MAs and to discuss how we can raise the profile of the sport in the region.”

FAS will also be represented by FAS Staff Coach and Head Coach for National Women’s U19 Team Ms Chen Caiying, and Women’s ‘A’ National Team Head Coach Ms Yeong Sheau Shyan.

The 46 MAs of AFC have been invited to the conference.  They will be represented by the Head Coaches of their Women’s National Teams, Technical Directors and other persons responsible for women’s football.

The conference aims to review women’s football in Asia in all its related aspects such as success in women’s football and the significance of women’s football. Discussions about raising the standard of performance in the women’s game will also be held.
