SINGAPORE, 30 NOVEMBER 2016: The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) and Singapore Sports Hub are pleased to announce that the FAS Women’s Challenge Cup final between Woodlands Wellington FC and Warriors FC will be held at the National Stadium for the first time this Sunday, 4 December 2016. The match will kick off at 8.00pm.

This has been made possible due to the collaboration between the Singapore Sports Hub and FAS to promote a broad range of football activities at the Sports Hub. Furthermore, FAS and Singapore Sports Hub will work on various activities together – such as the organisation of football clinics and community programmes involving football – in the coming year.

The Third Place Play-off between Arion Football Academy and Police Sports Association will also be held at the National Stadium on the same day, with kick-off scheduled for 5.00pm. There will also be activities like face painting and balloon sculpting to add to the celebratory atmosphere of the final at the National Stadium.

Mr Lim Kia Tong, President of the FAS Provisional Council, said: “We are delighted to have Singapore Sports Hub as our venue partner for the Women’s Challenge Cup final. Concluding the tournament at the National Stadium is a wonderful reward for our players who have worked hard in all their games. We hope that by having the final at the National Stadium, our female footballers will be motivated to continue striving to reach ever greater heights.”

Commented Manu Sawhney, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Sports Hub: “We are excited to host Singapore’s finest female footballers in the National Stadium for the first time, and support the development of the game at a grassroots level. Our participation in the FAS Women’s Challenge Cup is a testament of our commitment to the sport, and to bringing communities together in adopting an active lifestyle in Singapore.”

To encourage the community to adopt active lifestyles, the Sports Hub’s ongoing Experience Sports programme and quarterly Sports Hub Community Play Day ensure that sports and sporting activities are accessible to anyone who wishes to try a new sport or maintain a regular exercise regime, for free. In the second edition of the Sports Hub Community Play Day, National Football Coach V. Sundram Moorthy together with players from the Singapore National Team made a special guest appearance and interacted with fans on the sidelines of a children’s football tournament. With the closer collaboration between FAS and Sports Hub, members of the public can look forward to more community centric football-related programmes at the Sports Hub in the future.

The event is open to public, and admission is complimentary. Please see below for the details of the matches:
