FAS Young Women crowned champions of Challenge Cup
In the Women’s Challenge Cup final held on Saturday, 25 March 2006, the FAS Young Women hammered Bishan Arsenal 10-1 to be crowned Cup champions. This is the first time the Young Women have lifted the Challenge Cup trophy.
It was a final that saw Bishan Arsenal struggling to keep up with their fitter and faster opponents right from the start. The Young Women, with a powerful striking partnership between Tina Nasmi and Luo Jian Zhen upfront, controlled the pace of the game and hardly allowed Bishan any chances.
Nasmi and Luo scored a beautiful hat-trick each, Nasmi in the 11th, 62th and 72th minute; while Luo netted her goals in the 32th, 42nd and 64th minute. Bishan did no help to advance their side when they conceded an own goal in the 17th minute.
Young Women’s Chen Cai Ying put in two in the 35th and 78th minute, and fellow midfielder Chen Yue Gui completed the 10-goal triumph with hers in the 44th minute.
Bishan’s solitary goal came from forward Nurafny Saman in the 19th minute.
Presenting the Cup trophy to the Young Women were guest-of-honour President S R Nathan and Mrs. Nathan.
