Fixtures For AFF Suzuki Cup Officially Announced

SINGAPORE, 13 AUGUST 2014: The fixtures for the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup have been officially announced, with Singapore starting their title defence against traditional regional powerhouses Thailand on 23 November (Sunday).

As one of the hosts of the group stage, Singapore will enjoy home ground advantage at the new National Stadium, the centrepiece of the $1.33 billion Singapore Sports Hub. Vietnam will host all Group A matches, while all Group B matches will take place in Singapore.

“Every match in this group will be tough, because the countries we have been drawn with are very strong. There is the obvious historical rivalry with Malaysia, as well as a keen sense of competition with Thailand. The winners of the qualifying competition will be no slouches either, as they would have qualified ahead of four other countries,” said Bernd Stange, Head Coach, National Teams.

“Despite this, we remain confident that if we continue to build on the strong foundations we have laid so far, we will do Singapore proud. We will use the knowledge we have gained from our training tour to Austria, this Saturday’s match against Juventus and other international matches to forge ahead. The team is young and hungry for success, and I hope we will soon get familiar with the new Sports Hub so as to get the same home advantage we have enjoyed at the Jalan Besar Stadium.”

Singapore was drawn in Group B with Malaysia, Thailand and the winners of the Qualifying Round. The five countries vying for the remaining two spots in the competition proper are Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Timor Leste.

Ticketing details will be announced in due course.
