Fund-raiser match for Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts : Singapore U-23 vs Philippines U-23

SINGAPORE, 27 NOVEMBER 2013: As part of Singapore’s fund-raising efforts to help the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) is organising an international friendly charity match between Singapore Under-23 National Team and the Philippines’ Under-23 National Team.

Admission tickets are priced at $20 each and $100 each for VIP seats. Donation boxes will also be available at the stadium for attending fans who wish to donate more for our friends in the Philippines. All proceeds collected from ticket sales and the donation boxes will be given to Red Cross Singapore to aid their relief efforts following the disaster of Typhoon Haiyan.

This match will be the final preparatory match for the National U-23 squad before they depart to Myanmar for the December SEA Games; and will be graced by our Guest-Of-Honour, Her Excellency Minda Calaguian-Cruz, the Philippines Ambassador to Singapore. It will also feature performances and other entertaining activities to engage our fans through the night.

As the official flight partner of FAS, AirAsia Berhad will be sponsoring the flights of the Philippines National Under-23 Team and their delegation. FAS would like to thank AirAsia Berhad who have responded immediately after hearing of this fund-raiser, and we would like to invite other sponsors and partners to come forward and join everyone here at FAS to lend their support for the cause.

Mr Zainudin Nordin, President of FAS expressed his hopes of getting many fans to come and watch this match on Sunday : “We are deeply saddened by the tragedy that has struck the Philippines, and the FAS would like to help with the relief efforts in whichever way we can. Sports is a strong unifying force and we hope that all our fans would come together as One Singapore not only to show our support for the Under-23 Team, but more importantly to show our solidarity with our neighbours in times of distress. Your generous donations will go a long way in helping the victims re-build their lives and I hope to see all of you at the match on Sunday.”

Singapore Under-23 Coach Aide Iskandar agreed, saying : “Football is a sport that brings everyone together and it is important for us to lend a helping hand when our close friend is in need. I urge our fans to turn up at Hougang Stadium this Sunday and support the charity drive to raise funds for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. Through the fund-raising initiative, we hope to utilise the power of the sport and do our part to help the victims and their families. Let us send a strong message to our friends in the Philippines that they are not alone and that we stand in solidarity with them.”
