SINGAPORE, 5 JANUARY 2017: The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) is pleased to announce that registration for the Goalkeeper Academy Singapore (GAS) 2017 is now open to all youths aged 7 to 16 years.

Running for the second year in 2017, GAS comprises programmes which target youth goalkeepers at various developmental stages. To increase youths’ interest in goalkeeping and widen Singapore’s talent pool through engaging methodologies, the Pre-Academy provides introductory training to children aged 7 to 9, while the Development Centre caters to players aged 10 to 16.

Mr Ronnie Teo Jin Wah, whose son is among the many participants who have already registered again to return for GAS sessions this year, said: “On behalf of Rayden, I would like to thank Coach Frederic for the opportunity to be part of his programme. Despite the short five-month stint with GAS and JCOE (Junior Centre of Excellence), he has learnt so much and made new friends. I am grateful for the meticulous and structured training programme given to the kids and I believe the future of Singapore soccer will be promising.”

Sharing the benefits of joining the programme, Goalkeeper Coach/Instructor Frederic De Boever said: “Through GAS, participants can hone their skills through a comprehensive and forward-looking training plan which covers all aspects of goalkeeping and prepares them for the future of football. Training will be delivered through fun mini-games and help participants better understand the importance of goalkeeping in a game. Exposing children to such programmes at an early age also give them more opportunities to develop physical and social skills which are critical for their growth.”
