GIRLS MAKE THEIR MARK AT SPSSC/FAS INTER-SCHOOL UNDER-12 FOOTBALL FIESTA 2016

The Singapore Primary Schools Sports Council/Football Association of Singapore (FAS) Under-12 Football Fiesta 2016 saw close to 400 children participating in the event held on Saturday, 15 October 2016 at Toa Payoh Stadium.

Some 25 school teams tested their footballing skills against each other in friendly matches in 8-on-8 matches at the Fiesta, which also saw a variety of activities that included football clinics and contests organised to engage our budding young players.

Westgrove Primary School stood out in particular for sending an all-girls team to play against the all-boys and mixed teams. It was an encouraging sight to note an increase in the number of girls playing alongside boys in primary schools’ football events. With the new initiatives that have been put in place to encourage more girls to participate in the sport, the FAS hopes to reach out to even more children to pick football up.

Every participant went home with a souvenir medal, with special awards presented to the following:

Top Scorer: Ryu Hardy (White Sands Primary School)

Most Promising Player (Female): Siti Nurerwadah binte Erwan (Telok Kurau Primary School)

Most Promising Player (Male): Muhamad Ali Bin Manaf (St Joseph’s Institution Junior)

Most Sporting Player: Fakhrul Hayyat Bin Sharul Hisham (Park View Primary School)

Team Fair Play Award: Cedar Primary School
