FAS hold Grassroots Coaching Course for Verde Cresta Combined SC and Woodlands Lions
The participants, 31 July 2022
5 AUGUST 2022, SINGAPORE – The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) Coach Education and Development Department (CED) recently concluded a Grassroots Coaching Course last week for FAS-affiliated members Verde Cresta Combined Sports Club and Woodlands Lions Football Club.
A total of 31 participants were guided by Coach Developers Loh Ngiap Tai and Toni Teo, which included two theory sessions held virtually over Zoom on 25 and 27 July, before a practical session at Geylang Training Centre four days later.
There, they were taught about the philosophy of grassroots football, the qualities that make up a successful coach for kids in their formative years, and several models (eg SMILES and G.A.G) to adopt when planning and delivering training sessions.
One of the participants, Mr Saravanan, found many takeaways from the course, and told FAS.org.sg: “It was a very refreshing session on how to educate and develop players between the ages of five to 12 at the Woodlands Lions Football Academy. The coach developers were able to explain the topics very clearly and in a professional manner.”
Coach developer Loh was pleased with the eagerness of the participants and said: “The course gave all participants the opportunity to learn how to create positive experiences for young people in football. It’s our joy to have also helped participants discover the character and competency needed as coaches.”
Verde Cresta, who are set to make their debut in the FAS Island Wide League this season, found the course informative. Team Manager Mr Neil Todd added: “This is the first coaching course I have attended, and I was very pleased with all aspects of it. The content was excellent and has provided me with the necessary skills to plan and execute coaching sessions. I highly recommend this course for anyone beginning their coaching journey.”
Mr Zainudeen Hassan (Head, CED), noted: “The FAS’s Coach Education & Development Department is grateful to the Coach Developers and our two affiliated clubs for their support and assistance. We hope to see more participants coming onboard in the future to learn about Grassroots coaching.”
The next Grassroots Coaching Course will be held on 5 and 6 November this year.
