HARISS AND TAQI FETED BY AFF

SINGAPORE, 23 SEPTEMBER 2017: The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) would like to congratulate National Team vice-captain Hariss Harun for being selected by the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) in the AFF Best XI 2016, and FIFA Referee Muhammad Taqi Aljaafari Bin Jahari for being named AFF Referee of the Year 2016 (Men) at tonight‚Äôs AFF Awards 2017 ceremony in Bali, Indonesia.

Taqi is on the shortlist of referees being considered for appointment at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, and has recently been appointed to the FIFA U17 World Cup India 2017 along with FIFA Assistant Referees Edwin Lee and Ronnie Koh. The Singaporean trio will be the only representatives from Southeast Asia at the tournament. In May, Taqi was also appointed a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017, the youngest VAR at the tourney.

Hariss, who has earned 77 international caps to date, was unable to collect his award in person due to the Great Eastern-Hyundai S.League match for Home United FC against Geylang International FC.

FAS President Lim Kia Tong was delighted for both, saying: “It is indeed an honour for both Hariss and Taqi to be recognised by the AFF for being the best at what they do Рnot just in Singapore, but in the region.

“Even though they have very different roles as a player and as an official, they are both similar in that they are consummate professionals who take care of themselves and ensure they are in the best possible shape to carry out their duties at all times. The staff, management and Council of the FAS are all very happy for them, and hope this recognition will spur their colleagues on to achieve even more things.”
