Home United FC Wins 2016 Singapore Pools FA Cup

SINGAPORE, 21 NOVEMBER 2016: Home United FC’s Prime League team was crowned champions of the Singapore Pools FA Cup 2016 after defeating Siglap FC 3-1 at Jalan Besar Stadium yesterday. Amir Zalani scored a brace in the 14th minute and the 58th minute, and Ambroise Begue secured their win with a goal in the 82nd minute before Siglap scored a consolation through Guntur Djafril in the 89th minute.

 

 

This is the Protectors’ second consecutive FA Cup win. The tournament is contested by clubs in the Prime League, National Football League (NFL) and Island Wide League, and all clubs in the three leagues participated in this year’s tournament.

 

The prizes were presented by Singapore Pools’ Director for Customer Insights Mr Ee Hock Chye, the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) Provincial Council Member and Chairman of Balestier Khalsa Football Club Mr S. Thavaneson, and S.League CEO Mr Lim Chin.

 

 

Mr Thavaneson said: “It was a wonderful Singapore Pools FA Cup Final between the two sides. I would like to congratulate both teams for a great final, Home United FC for their victory last night and also Siglap FC, who displayed good competitive football for the entire campaign. I would also like to thank Singapore Pools for their support, and for being one of the FAS’ best partners.”

 

President of the FAS Provisional Council Mr Lim Kia Tong added: “Congratulations to both teams for displaying true sportsmanship and for exhibiting colorful and entertaining football. They have set the tone for a very vibrant landscape for the next season of the NFL which will be played in a new format.”
