In Memoriam: Dato’ Peter Velappan

SINGAPORE, 20 OCTOBER 2018 – On behalf of the Singapore footballing fraternity, the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) extends our deepest condolences to the family of Dato’ Peter Velappan, former Asian Football Confederation (AFC) General Secretary.
As the longest serving General Secretary in AFC history, he has left a legacy on Asian football, with his achievements in the progress of the game inspiring many.
FAS President Mr Lim Kia Tong said: “I was fortunate to have worked with Dato’ Peter when he was the AFC General Secretary, and we had even recently met again at the World Cup in Russia. He was a charismatic leader with an air of efficiency and a knowledgeable football administrator who brought Asian football into the international spotlight. His dedication to the sport is an inspiration, and it is an honour to have met with and learn from him.”
FAS General Secretary Yazeen Buhari will represent the FAS at his funeral on Monday in Kuala Lumpur.
