SINGAPORE, 1 DECEMBER 2015: Singapore National Team goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud left for Japan on a week-long training stint with J.League Matsumoto Yamaga earlier this morning.

Among those who gathered at the airport to send Izwan off were his family members and friends, including LionsXII teammate Raihan Rahman, and senior officials from the Football Association of Singapore and Epson.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to train with one of the top teams in Japan, and I am thankful to Matsumoto Yamaga, Epson, J.League and FAS for making this training stint possible. It will be a good learning stint and I will maximize the opportunity,” said Izwan.

Mr Alvin Tan, GM (Regional Marketing Support) of Epson, who are one of the sponsors for Matsumoto Yamaga and the FAS, said: “We are pleased to work with FAS and the J.League to secure this opportunity for Izwan to undergo the training stint at Matsumoto Yamaga FC, and are impressed with FAS’ vision and commitment towards youth development.

“Epson will continue to work closely with them to explore more opportunities of these training stints which would ultimately make our players better.”

FAS Deputy Director Benjamin Tan said: “As part of our strategy to further facilitate the development of our committed and talented players, we are constantly working with our partners to identify and secure overseas opportunities which include attachment and training stints.

“This is a good opportunity for Izwan to train with, and learn from, other top professional footballers in Asia, and we look forward to receiving feedback from Matsumoto Yamaga’s coaches on his stint. We would like to thank our partners, including the Japan Football Association, J.League and Epson, for their support.”

Just before he entered the departure hall, Izwan said: “I know FAS is in talks with other clubs to secure opportunities for other players and I urge them to make full use of these opportunities. Thanks again to the FAS, including President Zainudin and General Secretary Winston Lee, for always looking after our interests.”

FAS and Epson wish Izwan all the best for the training stint.
