JUERGEN RAAB JOINS NATIONAL TEAMS’ COACHING SET-UP
SINGAPORE, 30 OCTOBER 2014: The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) is pleased to announce that Mr Juergen Raab has joined the National Teams’ coaching set-up on a one-year contract.
Mr Raab is a former East German international with 20 caps, and has worked with renowned coaches such as Hans Meyer, Bernd Schuster and Matthias Sammer. The 55-year-old has a FIFA Pro-Licence, football’s highest coaching qualification, and a Diploma in Sports. As a coach whose responsibilities include overseeing of fitness programmes, he won the 2007 German Cup with FC Nürnberg.
His immediate task is to work with National Teams Head Coach Bernd Stange and Coach Aide Iskandar for the National Under-23 team in their preparations, especially in the area of fitness, for the SEA Games in 2015.
Mr Raab said: “I am delighted to be joining the Football Association of Singapore. It was an easy decision to join FAS as I am impressed by the professionalism of the management, and the Strategic Plan in place. I look forward to doing my part for Singapore football.”
Mr Stange said: “I am delighted with the appointment of Juergen, who has an excellent reputation in Europe and recommended by top coaches like Hans Meyer. His extensive experience at the highest level of European football, both as a professional player and a coach, will definitely aid us in our quest for more success on the field.”
Former FC Nürnberg and Borussia Mönchengladbach Head Coach Hans Meyer has glowing remarks on FAS’ latest coaching recruit: “Juergen previously worked with me as coach at Borussia Monchengladbach and FC Nürnberg and he was responsible for all coaching functions including fitness coaching of my players. I found his work impressive and he will be an asset to the Football Association of Singapore.”
