SINGAPORE, 23 NOVEMBER 2022 – Lion City Sailors FC (LCS) have emerged as champions of the first Centre of Excellence (COE) Under-17 League after four months of battle with eight other teams.

With just one point separating LCS and closest rivals Hougang United FC (HGFC), LCS was only confirmed as champions at the final round of the season. Their 5-0 win against second-last ActiveSG Football Academy rendered HGFC’s 3-2 win against Woodlands Lions inconsequential.

LCS got off to a bright start when defender Nifail Noorhaizam scored in the 11th minute, but they failed to add to their tally for the rest of the first half.

Whatever Sailors Head Coach Jasni Hatta told his charges at half-time seemed to work as they roared to life after the restart, scoring two goals in the space of two minutes. Syaraf Ammar kicked things off with a goal in the 57th minute, before Syahmi Indallah scored LCS’ third and his fifth of the season.

ActiveSG’s defender Aidil Rosli then scored an own goal before Ryan Peh calmly converted from the penalty spot in the 81st minute.

Meanwhile, Tampines Rovers’ Syazwan Latiff finished as the league’s Top Scorer with nine goals.

Congratulations to LCS for winning the COE U17 League title and well done to all the other teams for making the season an exciting one.
