SINGAPORE, 27 JULY 2023 – Singapore will face three-time winner North Korea and Cambodia in Group C of the 19th Asian Games, which will take place from 23 September to 8 October 2023 in Hangzhou, China. The tournament was originally set to take place last year; however it was postponed due to restrictions brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The official draw was conducted today in Hangzhou, China, where 17 teams were drawn into three groups of three and two groups of four. Placed in Group C, Singapore will travel to Hangzhou on 19th September to begin their quest for a place in the finals.

Host China, who has three titles, will meet Uzbekistan and Mongolia in Group A, while defending champion Japan are set to take on Vietnam, Nepal, and Bangladesh in Group D. A total of eight teams – comprising of the top team from each group and the three best second placed teams among all the groups – will advance to the knock-out stages.

The Lionesses are set to make their Asian Games debut this year. Women’s football was included in the Asian Games for the first time in 1990, and the Lionesses have never participated in any of the previous eight editions; 11 teams competed in each of the past two editions.
