Lions find out AFF Suzuki Cup 2020 group-stage opponents

SINGAPORE, 21 SEPTEMBER 2021 – Singapore have been drawn into Group A for the upcoming ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup 2020.
Tatsuma Yoshida’s Lions will battle Thailand, Myanmar, Philippines and the winner of the qualifying play-off tie between Brunei or Timor Leste in order to make it to the knockout stages of the 13th edition of ASEAN’s showpiece international tournament, which is set to be held between 5 December 2021 to 1 January 2022.
The results of the draw were made known earlier today afternoon during a virtual Official Draw ceremony. Further details, such as the venues, will be made known in due course.
Tatsuma told FAS.org.sg: “I am excited to finally know our opponents in the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020 after the various delays to the tournament. There are no good or bad teams in the tournament and we will not underestimate any side. We should be ambitious, give our best and always aim to be a challenger for the trophy, but we should also take each match as it comes and target to progress out of the group first.
“With the Singapore Premier League ending next month, we will have some time to prepare for the Suzuki Cup and plans are being made to ensure we can make the most of the time we have.
“I am also excited as this will be my first time leading the National Team into a tournament since taking charge. I heard about the Suzuki Cup while I was in Japan and I know it is an important tournament in Southeast Asia and to Singapore fans, so I am greatly looking forward to playing the tournament with my boys.”
