Lions To Take On Bahrain And Hong Kong
SINGAPORE, 24 AUGUST 2016: The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) today announced that the National Team will be playing two international ‘A’ friendlies against Bahrain and Hong Kong, on 1 September and 11 October 2016 respectively. Both matches, part of the Lions’ preparations for the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup, will be played away.
“Bahrain and Hong Kong are good opponents. Hong Kong has good and physically strong players, some of whom are naturalised. Their playing style is similar to some of our opponents at the AFF Suzuki Cup, and we are looking forward to the game. Bahrain, being 33 places above us in the FIFA World Ranking, will also be a good test for us. I have said before that it is important for us to have high-quality matches against strong opponents, so we are happy to have these matches lined up together with the Causeway Challenge against Malaysia on 7 October. They will certainly help us to gear up for the Suzuki Cup,” said Singapore coach V. Sundram Moorthy.
A 24-strong squad has been selected for the match against Bahrain, with Hougang United FC forward Iqbal Hussain among those eager to impress Coach Sundram.
“I am excited to be called up by Coach Sundram for the match against Bahrain. It shows that my hard work in the S.League has paid off, and I am looking forward to learning not just from him but also from the seniors in the team,” said Iqbal, who has scored four goals for his club this year.
Tickets for the Causeway Challenge 2016 will be available from www.sportshubtix.sg from 12.00pm on 1 September 2016. Early bird prices (from 1-12 September) start from $6 for concession tickets.
