Media Statement On The Passing Of Mr Kwek Leng Joo

SINGAPORE, 16 NOVEMBER 2015: The Council, management and staff of the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) and the S.League are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr Kwek Leng Joo, the former Chairman of the S.League‚Äôs Board of Directors.

Mr Kwek was part of the team which had in 1995 worked relentlessly to establish Singapore’s first professional league the following year.

As the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr Kwek played a leading role in establishing a strong foundation for a new professional league, the S.League, which is now about to conclude its 20th season.

In May 2010, Mr Kwek, who was the Chairman of the Marketing Advisory Committee of the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC), conducted the draw for the Football Competition of the first-ever Youth Olympic Games (YOG).

Mr Kwek was also a well-known advocate of Corporate Social Responsibility.

Mr Kwek made invaluable contributions to Singapore in many areas, including football, and he will be greatly missed.
