SINGAPORE, 7 AUGUST 2018: There were plenty of smiles and laughter as 25 players came together at Geylang Field on Monday evening for a training session under National Team Head Coach, Fandi Ahmad.

Along with his backroom staff, Fandi conducted his first field training session since taking the reins three months ago.

After warming up, the group did some basic passing drills and were then separated into three groups, with each playing 20 minutes of 11-a-side against the Young Lions to wrap up the 180-minute session.

The players involved included the likes of Balestier Khalsa FC duo Huzaifah Aziz and Fadli Kamis, Tampines Rovers FC youngsters Irfan Najeeb and Zulfadhmi Suzliman and Young Lion quartet Jacob Mahler, Hami Syahin, Joshua Pereira and Zulqarnaen Suzliman.

Home United FC and Albirex Niigata FC (S) players were exempted due to club commitments, as were the overseas-based Lions, though Thailand-based Navy FC winger Gabriel Quak joined in.

Speaking after the session, Fandi thanked the various Great Eastern-Hyundai Singapore Premier League (SPL) clubs for allowing their players to be involved and added that he was happy to get them together.

“Today (the purpose) is just to see them and get them together,” he said. “We didn’t push so much, we just wanted them to come and do some technical work, and play against the Young Lions.

“The players look enthusiastic and very eager… We definitely have a lot (more) to do but I am happy and we are quite happy with the performance and enthusiasm (today).”

The next session will be held on 27 August.
