OVERSEAS WATCH: Gabriel sparkles on Lions return, Hariss and Safuwan to clash in Malaysia Cup

The Lions return to their clubs following the conclusion of the September FIFA window, which saw Singapore claim a win and a draw with Fiji and Mauritius respectively

Hariss Harun (Johor Darul Ta’zim) – Malaysia Super League (MSL)
Hariss Harun captained JDT to a comprehensive 3-0 away victory over MISC-MIFA in the Southern Tigers’ final fixture in Group C of the Malaysia Cup.

 

Coupled with Kelantan FA’s 2-0 win over Kedah FA on the same night, JDT were able to snatch top spot in Group C with nine points.

 

Kelantan’s heroics on the final match-day also saw them scrape into the last eight courtesy of a better goal difference over MISC-MIFA and Kedah after the trio had all finished on eight points.

 

JDT will face Pahang FA in the Quarter-Finals, with the first leg slated for 21 September.

 Safuwan Baharudin turned in a solid display against Mauritius. 

 

Safuwan Baharudin (Pahang FA) – MSL
Pahang FA claimed a 4-0 win over Sabah as both teams reach the last eight of the 2018 Malaysia Cup.

 

Pahang FA will face JDT in the Quarter-Finals, with Safuwan likely to face national teammate Hariss Harun in a battle to reach the final four.

Faris Ramli (PKNS) – MSL
Having secured a spot in the Quarter-Finals on match-day five, PKNS made light work of PDRM with a 5-0 win to wrap up proceedings in Group B of the 2018 Malaysia Cup.

 

PKNS will face Perak away from home in the 1st-Leg of the Quarter-Finals, which will take place on 25 September.

Shahdan Sulaiman (Melaka United) – MSL
Having been eliminated from the Malaysia Cup before the final match-day, Melaka United finished their season on a high with a 6-1 drubbing of Felda United.

 

Shahdan Sulaiman’s club season might have drawn to a close but he has surely set his sights on playing a part in the Lions’ Suzuki Cup campaign at the end of the year.

Zulfahmi Arifin played the full 90 minutes as Chonburi FC lost 2-4 to Bangkok Glass on 16 September.

 

Zulfahmi was not involved in Chonburi FC’s first three matches of September having been away on National Team duty.

 

Chonburi FC are currently ninth in Thai League 1 with 39 points from 30 games.

Gabriel Quak was an unused substitute in his first game back with Royal Thai Navy FC when the club drew 1-1 against PTT on 16 September.

 

Previously, Quak made his first appearance for Singapore in over a year against Fiji on 11 September, recording a glorious assist for Ikhsan Fandi’s goal as the Lions grabbed a 2-0 win at the Bishan Stadium.

Izwan Mahbud started in goal for Nong Bua Pitchaya on the same day after returning from international duty, as his club fell 2-0 to PTT in the league on 12 September.

 

Having suffered back-to-back defeats over the past week, Nong Bua Pitchaya stayed fifth in Thai League 2 on 41 points from 26 games.
